Portions of this blog were pasted together into an article, which is now the feature article on yoga.com’s homepage!  Very exciting indeed.

Speaking of yoga, last Friday I did a double, which means I took a 6:15 a.m. sunrise class and then took the 6 p.m. night class.

I’d never done a double before, so of course I was a little nervous heading into my evening class, even though so many people have told me that your second class of the day feels incredible. I made sure to drink even more water than usual during the day, and I ate a hearty, salty lunch. I also chugged a glass of Emergen-C, which is supposed to help refuel your electrolyte counts.

And what do you know—my 6 p.m. class was phenomenal.

I was a little shaky here and there, but I could not believe how open and loose my limbs were, how easy it was to lean backwards and forwards, to twist my spine this way and that way. I hardly recognized my body’s flexibility and fluidity at various points.

Of course, afterwards, I felt about as strong as freshly cooked spaghetti and about as thirsty as 30 camels in the Sahara Desert. But, I slept more peacefully and soundly Friday night than I have in months. And on Saturday morning, I woke feeling as though I had just returned from a week-long vacation of doing nothing but sitting surfside and relaxing.

I just might try this double thing more often.

And now it’s another busy week, complete with lots more yoga, since my head is a little out of sorts right now, with all I’m thinking about, planning for, and trying to digest and understand.

Yoga serves so many wonderful purposes in my life. And right now, more than anything, yoga is an unwavering, steel-toed crutch helping me walk forward on bent, uncertain legs.
