Valentine’s Day: Part I

A new quote to add to the quote book:

“To love is to suffer.  To avoid suffering one must not love.  But, then one suffers from not loving.  Therefore, to love is to suffer, not to love is to suffer.  To suffer is to suffer.  To be happy is to love.  To be happy then is to suffer.  But, suffering makes one unhappy.  Therefore, to be unhappy one must love, or to love to suffer, or suffer from too much happiness.  I hope you’re getting this down.”

Woody Allen, folks.  As my father noted, “He may be into yoga.”

More later…

I have been reading through all of your posts…and since I have been through great joy and great suffering in recent years due to love, thought this was most appropriate to reply to. Not to mention the fact that I, too, have an appreciation for Woody Allen.

As someone who used to watch you “fight through” physical pain on a daily basis, the idea of this all-encompassing (mind-body-spirit) challenge you’ve embarked upon is both inspiring and not a little daunting. Thank you for sharing your thoughts – as usual, your insight about your quest is helping me decipher mine.

Yes, we are each other’s life maps at times, aren’t we? So maybe our quote should go, “You, me, wild horses, and clear directions—that’s the dream, right?” :)
